PSTET Eligibility Criteria 2018-19: Check Punjab TET Eligibility Class I to V & Classes VI to VIII

PSTET Eligibility Criteria 2018-19: State Council of Educational Research and Training, will decide a few conditions like academic qualifications, the age limit for the applicants willing to apply for PSTET 2018 exam. All the applicants will have to ensure that they fulfill all conditions known as PSTET eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria of PSTET highlights the educational qualifications which all the applicants have to possess. The PSTET 2018 eligibility criteria have been announced separately for paper 1 and paper 2. according to the eligibility criteria laid down by the council for the previous PSTET exam that all the teaching aspirants should possess a bachelor’s degree to be eligible for the exam. The eligibility criteria of PSTET will be announced with the release of official notification. Applicants are advised to check the detailed PSTET eligibility criteria before as per their choice of papers before they fill the online application form. In case, any candidate fails to fulfill the PSTET eligibility criteria 2018, he/she will not be allowed to participate in the examination process. There will be 2 types of eligibility criteria obtainable for the candidates who are going to apply for PSTET. There’ll be 2 stages of teaching personals are going to be chosen for PSTET 2018. Within the 1st stage. The academics will be going to teach the children who are studying at first to the fifth standard. Within the second stage, the academics will be teaching the students who are studying in sixth to eighth standard. The qualification for these 2 types of teachers has provided below. PSTET Eligibility Criteria - Punjab TET Eligibilty

Qualifications for Class I to V (Primary Stage):

The candidates should have passed their class 12th Exam or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks and passed or should be appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002; or Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); or Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)* or Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education

Qualifications for Classes VI-VIII (Elementary Stage)

Candidates should have Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known); or Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.); or Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard; or Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); or Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc. Ed or B.A. Ed/B.Sc. Ed; or Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)
The minimum qualification norms referred to in this Notification apply to teachers of Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, etc.

PSTET Eligibility Criteria 2018 – Points to Note


  • Candidates of SC/ST/OBC/Differently Abled category will be offered 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks for minimum educational qualification.
  • Diploma/Degree Course in Teacher Education: In order to be eligible for participation in PSTET, candidates pursuing a diploma or degree course recognized by NCTE only will be recognized.
  • Candidates should note that the Diploma in Special Education and B.Ed (Special Education), courses should have been recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) to be considered.
  • Training: As per the PSTET 2017 eligibility criteria, candidates possessing D.Ed. (Special Education) or B.Ed. (Special Education) qualification will have to undergo a special training, after a final appointment. The training will be done in a -month Special Program in Elementary Education recognized by NCTE.
  • All the minimum educational qualifications specified for primary/elementary teachers under the PSTET eligibility criteria will be mandatory for teachers of Languages, Social Studies/Social Science, Mathematics, Science etc.
  • As per the eligibility criteria of PSTET, applicants who teach subjects like Physical Education, the minimum qualification norms for Physical Education teachers referred to in NCTE Regulation, dated 3rd November, 2001 (as amended from time to time) shall be applicable.
  • Applicants interested to teach subjects like Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc. the existing eligibility norms prescribed by the State Governments and other school managements shall be applicable till such time the NCTE lays down the minimum qualifications in respect of such teachers.
  • All those applicants who are in the final year of their Bachelor Degree in Education or Diploma in Elementary Education etc. Will be considered provisionally admitted and the TET eligibility certificate shall be issued only on passing the aforesaid Examinations.
  • Any applicant who does not possess the required qualifications will not be eligible to participate in the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test.

Structure of PSTET


  • Structure & Content of PSTET - All questions in PSTET test will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four alternatives out of which one answer will be correct. There will be no negative marking.
  • There will be two papers of PSTET
  • Paper, I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V.
  • Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII.

Note: A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers (Paper I and Paper II). 

Duration of PSTET Exam


  • In accordance with NCTE regarding Guidelines for conduct of Teacher Eligibility Test, the time duration for Paper-I & Paper-II, has been mentioned as 01.30 hours in TET.
  • The paper I (for classes I to V); No. of MCQs 150
  • Structure and Content (All Compulsory)
  • Child Development and Pedagogy: 30 MCQs & 30 Marks
  • The language I: 30 MCQs & 30 Marks
  • Language II: 30 MCQs & 30 Marks
  • Mathematics: 30 MCQs & 30 Marks
  • Environmental Studies: 30 MCQs & 30 Marks
Total: 150 MCQ and 150 Marks
  • The questions in the tests for Paper I will be based on the topics prescribed for classes: IV, but their difficulty standard, as well as linkages, could be up to the secondary stage.

Application Fees for PSTET Exam


  • In case the candidates wish to apply for either Paper I or Paper II, they are required to pay an application fee of Rs.600/- (Rs.300/- for SC/ ST Category/ Differently Abled candidates)
  • In case the candidates wish to apply for both Paper I or Paper II, they are required to pay an application fee of Rs.1200/- (Rs.600/- for SC/ ST Category/ Differently Abled candidates)
  • The fee can be paid through Challan or Credit/Debit Card. Ex-Servicemen Self-only candidates are exempted from payment of fees.
